Home

I think my favourite time of day, especially in Winter, is when I close up the house for the night.  Draw the curtains, and light the lamps, often my kerosene lamps and sometimes I will light all the candles like I did tonight.  There is something so comforting about this routine for me.  My life, for now at least, revolves around my home and my family and I just revel in everything domestic.  Why, I wonder, were housewives treated like second class citizens at one time?  Who doesn't love to come home to a clean, well run home, that is warm and inviting, with a hot meal waiting for them?  Who doesn't appreciate opening their wardrobes to find clean clothes, and to sleep in a made up bed with fresh sheets.  I know that mostly, my family really appreciate all I do for them and that makes me happy.
Our lowline tv unit really suits this room.
I just love candle light.
That dinky wooden tv unit and shelving must have been a groovy modern addition to this grand old house in the days when video players were so hi tech!
We don't use this heater, we have ducted heating, but it's a handy home for my David Corbridge "Piggins".  I used to collect pigs once, not any more, but I couldn't part with these beauties, my sister brought my first one back from the UK and then I bought a few more online.
Yes that's our broken big tv sitting there waiting for it's last resting place.
That's my maternal grandparents on the left, the only known photo we have of them together.  My grandfather in his RAAF uniform, and my grandmother, his wife, who died in childbirth when my father was just five.  This is also the only known photo.  That is Sarah's memory photo album behind the lamp.
That's a funny little table that was here, it has a weird drawer thing with wooden pegs in it, not sure what it's for but my darling late Uncle Bill and his wife are there, and a photo of me and my two big sisters.
I love this little lamp, it has birds all around the base.  Flue needs a clean though.  That's my 50th birthday photo in the bottle shaped frame.  I think I had two glasses in my hand.....
Got the bed all to myself tonight.
It's cold out there.  That's the little window in the entrance hall.

I have a pot of lovely veal ragout to have over pasta in the slow cooker for our dinner.  I sent Phill away with six home made frozen dinners and a fruit cake.
There are all kinds of rumours about the company going under but we are playing the waiting game and have some plans in place should this happen.  I was feeling a bit anxious about the whole thing until I read the Sunday papers this morning and read about people with REAL worries, like living in war zones, and indigenous people not being able to feed their children.  It's strange that Phill and I never fight when the chips are down, we seem to pull together and plough through the bad times.  I actually shine in adversity, I always have.
Well Josh has both his assignments done and dusted and ready to hand in, and his exams will be over by the end of the week.  Half of year ten down and onward.  He feels that he did pretty well in his maths test on Friday.  Doesn't take after me there.
The week ahead - getting Josh through his exams, getting this house cleaned and back in order after Phill being home for a week, making sure the kids are well fed and on track.  And taking some time out for MEEEEEE!!!

You've made your new home look so lovely! I'm just like you, i love battening down the hatches, lighting candles and making everything cosy for the evening. I really enjoyed the guided tour round the house and hearing what you've made for supper - sounds so delicious.
Phill's a lucky man being sent off with your cooking.
Sorry to hear about the work worries though, that's not what you need. It's such a difficult time everywhere with finances and businesses crumbling. One of the reasons that we moved to Indonesia was because Pete was about to get made redundant - funny how things work out for the best though.
Have a good week and many congrats for getting Josh's homework sorted - you deserve a huge glass (bottles) of wine now and some you time XXXX

You sure have a knack for making a Home A HOME. I shit you not!
Love it all and I am partial to candles myself.

(((hugs)))

That is one beautiful home you are in and no doubt you have added to it. I liked your statement about how you and Phil pull together in adversity - I think we had so much adversity in the many years of Don's Quadriplegia - we just got closer and closer... I looked for your facebook page but can't find what its under can you email me the link please

Hello Lady - I've been away for ages and I'm trying to catch up. Your photos are lovely and your home looks welcoming and cozy - and wonderfully colorful too! I read the post before this one - really! no pay! Wow. I'm glad you have a plan for short term but I am sure there is frustration just the same. I hope Phill finds himself a new & better job before too long.
