I've been slowly honing the recipe till I got it just right (for us) and I think I did it today. The other day Woolies had pork and veal mince really cheap so I got a couple of packets and decided to try making chilli with that. So I sauteed the meat in a little olive oil then added cumin, ground coriander, chilli powder, cinnamon, onion powder, fresh garlic, minced chilli and tomato paste and fried the rawness out. Then added a tin of crushed tomatoes, some red wine vinegar, brown sugar and a few squares of chocolate and the obligatory sachet of puree cauli and broccoli. Salt and black pepper to taste, then at the end of course, a tin of red kidney beans. It was perfect and everyone agreed. The kids had this over corn chips as nachos with nachos topping and grated cheese. We had corned beef in the slow cooker with potato and carrot and cabbage with caraway seeds. Leftovers to freeze and for cold meat. My pea soup didn't turn out so well, I couldn't find the recipe I usually use which is on the pack of the green split peas. Then after I made it I realised it was on my recipe blog. Duh.
Real Estate was supposed to turn up at 10am. I didn't get to bed till after 1.30 this morning and dragged myself out of bed at about 8.15 and showered and dressed and cleaned the house. By 10.30 nobody appeared so I rang the real estate and nobody answered. At 11 they rang and said the people had changed their minds and decided not to view the house. I was livid (and tired) and let the girl on the phone know it. She apologised but I was still pissed off. I would have gone back to bed but I had made it (for a change).
Then, this afternoon, they rang again and asked for a huge favour, they had someone who had come to town on the train (silly people) and were going back tonight and could they come right away to see the house. I'd calmed down by then and apologised to the girl for being snippy this morning. They came down and stayed the longest of anyone who has looked at the place. Wonder if they'll buy it? We want to move out anyway to find somewhere closer to the school. I do love this house though and told Phill I'm not moving into some shitheap, I won't be going anywhere till we find something that suits us, preferably long term.
Shaping up for some hot weather here, forecast for 41C on Saturday. They're going on and on about heat waves etc on the Sydney news. They should try living in the Riverina then they'd know HOT.
Think we might hop in the pool tonight.
