Scout's Big Adventure

We have been thinking about getting another cat for a while and decided that since the kids wouldn't be getting much for Christmas we'd get them one and surprise them on Christmas Day, so today we started looking in earnest and kept striking out until we got the idea to ring a pet shop in Young and she had two signs on her noticeboard for kittens.  We rang the woman who was Monteague about 14kms out from Young.  She had male kittens of different colours.  We were so excited we ended up telling the kids and we all drove up there and found the farm where she had all these cats and kittens.  They had them for the mouse plague but they just keep multiplying.  She handed us one kitten and Josh was instantly smitten and there wasn't going to be any discussion about which one we'd have.  We brought him home in the car and he was a bit scared but so good and bonded with the kids right away.  We stopped off and got a litter tray and some litter and food and a bowl so he could have a drink in the car, it was so hot today.  He's a darling little thing only about 6 weeks old, so cuddly and laid back.  He's used the litter tray once and loves his food but isn't drinking anything which is a worry, I even went down and got him some cat milk.  If he doesn't drink soon I'll feed him with the eye dropper.  He's well and alert and not lethargic and would have got some moisture from the wet food I gave him.

Meet Scout.

Yay he just drank some milk!  He's now asleep on Josh's head.  It's so lovely how happy the kids are to have a kitten again, even Phill was really keen and he professes to not like cats.  This little one was meant to be with us, what a great Christmas it will be this year.  And he cost us nothing.  He was riddled with fleas as she had all the cats outside on the farm but we got some safe spray and Emily and Phill treated him and Em was so patient, sat there and combed him with a flea comb until they were all gone.  I got some good drops for him as well and we'll give him those soon.  It's so, so lovely to have a cat in the house again and he's going to be an inside only cat, I couldn't go through losing another one.  We'll get him desexed as soon as we can after Christmas and he'll be a happy house cat and keep me company next year when the kids go to school.
We went out tonight to look at the Christmas lights, there were some really lovely displays.  Emily draws penises on everything, I know it sounds odd but that's our Em.  We drove by this one on the way home and Phill looked at me and backed up.  I'd seen it but thought I was seeing things.  We couldn't stop laughing and asked Emily if she'd been there and doctored up their lights.  So funny.
Emily has her friend Sindy for a sleepover tonight, it's still so good to see her doing normal things.  They are funny together, they get on so well, have the same sense of humour.  But Sindy is shy and has been very quiet.  I went and picked them up this afternoon and she got in the car and started chattering and I said "That's the most I've ever heard you speak".  She must be getting used to us.  She's a really nice kid, Phill used to work with her dad.  Her Mum doesn't live with them, she had a stroke and I think she's also an alcho.  Sindy is in Josh's year at school, so a bit younger than Emily but I hope having her will ease Em's transition back into school next year.
So three more sleeps till Santa comes and all is well, I don't know why I bother worrying, things seem to work themselves out in the end and there are so many people who are really struggling at the moment.
I'm watching Carols in the Domain on the tv tonight, I like the Melbourne one better which is on Christmas Eve but this one's okay this year.  It's nearly over and they are showing close ups of all the little ones alseep on their blankets, that's what Christmas is all about, little children and family.
Yesterday a train went by, they have to toot their horn when they approach a level crossing which is just opposite our house, and the driver managed to toot out Jingle Bells, it was so cool.
Emily went down and did her Christmas shopping and I just realised that she got something for Josh but he hasn't got anything for her so I went in and told him we can go down together on Monday and get her something.  I really want them to learn about giving, not just receiving.
I think I have fleas now.

What a beautiful little kitten - you are meant to have certain animals - and think of the love he will give - and receive
