These ARE the Good Old Days

My dear and wise blogger friend Therese (Middle Child) has often said this to me, to remind me to enjoy these years while the children are still children, and at home with us.  It hasn't always been easy to live up to though.
As the four of us sat around the table eating our Christmas Dinner I remarked on how much I enjoy them being the age they are now, we can have adult conversations, and we really do, but they are still kids and still do kid stuff and love us and think we're pretty good.
Today we got up and drove to Wagga with the new Navman Phill gave me for Christmas.  Yes, a Navman.  I am renowned for getting lost, hopelessly lost, remember the famous time I set out for the coast and ended up in Sydney?  You don't?  I do and so does all of my family.  It's an amazing contraption, we tried it out on the way to Wagga.  We got a second controller for the X box.  It was a joint present, why didn't I think to get a second controller?  We were lucky to even get one, only one store had any left but they kindly gave me a good price for it.  Phill got a new remote control for the pay tv, so when the new one comes we'll have two, and he got a new machine to direct the pay tv into the bedroom.  I got a calender, a "Stewie" one (Family Guy).  Wagga was more crowded than it was before Christmas, Boxing Day Sales and all although today is just the public holiday for Boxing Day.  There was even a pickpocket in the Sturt Mall and the police came searching for him.  We had lunch then drove on to Barmedman to the mineral pool.  It was most crowded we've ever seen it but we had a lovely swim (until the dead froggy appeared).  They had a huge amount of rain over Christmas so the pools were fuller than last week but also a bit dirty.  We came home and made hamburgers and the kids are now playing their new X box.  I am loving my Kindle.  As a book lover all of my life I wasn't sure I would like not having a paper one to hold, but it's so handy.  It is small enough to fit in my bag and I read it several times today when I was waiting for Phill to duck into shops looking for a tablet for his work documents.  I am shocking at returning library books, my overdue fees probably finance the whole place down there.  I am happy to pay for my Kindle books but Phill found some sites where you can download them for free, not sure how that will work.
I am thinking of driving up to Sydney with the kids, perhaps for New Year.  I want to see Ali but they are going away and I'm not sure when.  Phill will probably be working pretty solidly from now on as he's had quite a few days off and the grain from the harvest is starting to filter through now.
So yes, these are the good old days and I will enjoy them while we have them.
