No frost this morning, not quite as cold. I let the fire go out last night so I can clean the ash out of it today. I finally found someone who will deliver a load of wood. This is the first time we've had to pay for wood in this house, Phill was going out and getting it himself and I still have a bit left. But of course he's gone up north with the car till who knows when.
Last night I did beer battered deep sea cod and home made chips and salad for Josh and I, Emily had nachos. I found a blog of an ex Masterchef contestant who said beer batter only needs cold beer and self raising flour, so I did that but doctored it with some onion powder and garlic powder. It was great, crispy and delicious but the fish stuck to the basket of the deep fryer. Josh and I wondered if I should have put the fish directly into the oil rather than putting it in the basket then lowering it. He also suggested I cook one piece at a time (clever boy). Chips were really good, I followed a tip from Rick Stein of cooking them once then leaving them to get cold and frying them again and they came out crispy and delicious. I don't deep fry often, but it's nice to do it sometimes. It's so messy, I have a big job cleaning the fryer today. That's after I had to go find it in a packing carton as my dear husband has packed up all the big appliances that were in the laundry cupboard.
He looked at a couple of houses yesterday, one is the one we were keen on, and has put in an application for that one so it will be interesting to see if the TICA thing rears its ugly head again. I'm secretly hoping it does and we have to can the whole move. Josh is settling in at school more and more and is doing really well. Emily of course can be a drop out anywhere. She didn't go to school again yesterday. I had asked her if she had her clothes ready and she said yes but then yesterday morning suddenly they were dirty. She left half her school clothes at Thieving Spitting Kim's place who refused to give them back (and they wonder why she's not welcome here anymore!)
I am having a lot of trouble commenting on my favourite blogs. I am reading though.
Josh and I are getting a lot of exercise. He walked to and from school yesterday, I walked to the shops but got a taxi home as I had a lot to carry, then the two of us walked down to IGA yesterday after school to get beer for the beer batter. So funny buying one tiny stubby for $2. And I had to get some numbers for the wood delivery. I do miss my car though.
Better get in the shower, the day is getting away and the wood man will be here soon, I'm going to get him to dump it all in the car port rather than in the wood shelter it will be easier.
