Thought it was too good to be true, bloody school rang at middayish and said that Em was sick and vomiting etc. Now my darling daughter can vomit at will, one of her many talents. She had a fallout with Kim yesterday and has been a total cow at home. I think she had trouble at school and decide to run. Next week I am totally turning off the phones and I mean it this time. She can vomit just as well at school as she can at home. Funny she came good once she got home. Phill and I headed for the shops but I decided we would go for lunch at the club. We had put the car in for a rego check and the good news was that all it needed was a new brake light bulb, we thought we'd be up for tyres so that was a small win. We had stopped eating at the club, which we love for its atmosphere and they know us there etc, but the food was appalling even by country town standards. Last time we foolishly ate there we were the only patrons in the bistro. Today it was very busy and things seemed different, we were going to order what we considered "safe" meals but as it's the Beach Volleyball this weekend here in Coota they had a special menu. I got Chicken Parmigiana and Phill got Chicken Schnitzel. Both meals were very good, pub food, but well cooked and tasty so yay we can start going back there again. The barmaid told us new people had taken over the bistro a couple of months ago. It is something we do as a couple and it's fun. We had a bit of a flutter on the pokies, didn't win but we enjoyed ourselves.
Decided we'd order pizza tonight.
Phill finally got an offer for the company he applied for a job with. As a driver. Bullshit, when will someone recognise his talents and skills and offer him a supervisory job? The rail industry is managed by clowns these days. He told them where to stick their job, nicely of course and will stay where he is. He's on the phone right now wheeling and dealing. I love it. I could bloody run a rail company after all these years and do it better than the current powers that be. Even his boss, who was once a friend of ours, seems to have lost the plot lately.
I thought I'd get over the Mum thing by morning, but when I woke up I was still stewing. So I rang her. She sounded cold yet again, and I asked her how her birthday dinner out with my sister and brother in law went. I could tell she was dying to put shit on my sister, she's Mum's least favourite child, but she knows too well that us girls just get straight on the phone to each other whenever she disses one of us. Then I said "Mum have I done something to upset you?" She said no, and asked why. I told her that she was very offhand the last couple of times we talked. She made some excuse but her whole tone changed. She told me that she fully intended to ring me but couldn't really talk while my sister was there. ???? No matter, at least she offerred that by way of an apology and that is enough for me. After that we had a nice talk and I felt so much better by the time we hung up our phones. So it IS better to ask and air these things. No she will never change, and I don't know why she is the way she is, but I won't just assume things and will always confront her.
I talked to my Katy, the stuff with Mum made me think about how I am as a mother. We had a nice talk. I miss her so much but resenting her leaving, after almost five years, is pointless now. I want to be my adult kids' biggest supporter, hard with the other three right now but that will change. It always does.
My dear friend Pat asked what "mash" is. Mashed potato!!!
Can you believe Emily thinks she is going to the pool this afternoon? I think not. Even her father called out "You're not going anywhere!"
When we were at the club there was a table of older ladies next to ours who were celebrating their friend's birthday. One of them wondered out loud who they could ask to take their group photo. I said "I will!" and went and took a couple of shots for them. I envied them, I miss having friends. I always had a nice circle of friends but moving around and other stuff put an end to that. I really, really need to get out, get involved and meet people again.
TGIF.

No pussyfooting around with words...eh??? Mash = short for mashed potatoes. ;0)
Something I need to learn.
My son tried to show me how to text the other day and yesterday I see from his cell phone a message in my mailbox in my laptop.
Is everything okay?
Now he had mentioned something about 80 letters/characters I thinks it was and to keep it short.
I wrote "Yep" then made 2 spaces and wrote a book about the salesman at the door.
All he saw was "yep." :0)
Glad you took the bull by the horns and called your mum.
Sometimes it takes that measure!
(((hugs)))
OMG Pat you make me laugh every single day.
good for you for being up front with your mom..I find it works better than just wondering all the time.
mash?...is the south that is another word for moonshine..
You've got a lot of friends, but we all live in blogland
Foxymoron - after 34 years in this town I have "acquaintances" and only one really good friend - and I know how you feel. I love it when I see groups of old ladies around a table - they laugh so much and are very loud -
I'm sorry to say this, but I think being able to vomit on call is a really impressive skill. That daughter of yours is amazing, she caught some type of seafood with her bare hands didn't she? What an interesting kid.
I'm glad you cleared the air with your Mum. I always hate that bad feeling that usually comes from misunderstanding and emotion charged assumptions with family.
I totally agree its tough to see your parents go downhill with age. I think its frightening as it means we are getting older and meant to be the responsible sensible ones. That circle of life is endless and our part is so small.
Having moved house in a new area I feel a bit lost and without local friends. I too am eager to make new friends, but I don't find it that easy especially when Im looking for it. I miss my local shops where we always bumped into someone one of us knew.
I love people who appreciate our Em. She really is an amazing kid, but we have to take the good with the not so good.
Yes, she caught freshwater shrimp with her bare hands. I wish I was more like her in many ways.
