Tiger Woods was all over the news this morning, must be a slow news day here. They had a reporter waiting at the airport in Melbourne for his private jet to land, even showing a close up of it's windows, although I suspect the Nine network were having a bit of fun with it, the anchor said the windows were steamed up because "who knows what's going on in there?" The relevant people are warning people not to heckle Woods when he fronts up for the Masters tournament, they will be given one warning then ejected from the course. I said to Phill let's get in the car and drive down and heckle him. There are four of us, we'll get in two heckles each, making eight heckles, before we get kicked out. OMG who fucking cares? He's a sportsperson. Sex addict? Bullshit, he's just a silly boy who wasn't ready for marriage and family and got caught. And further proof that nothing is really happening in the world is the news that cricket player Glen McGrath conducted a poll to find out whether people think he's moving on too soon by being engaged so soon after the death of his wife from breast cancer. He has a foundation that raises money for the cause and he was worried that it might affect it. WHAT? He hits a ball with a bit of wood for a living, he needs to get over himself. It's scary the celebrity that is given to sportspeople in this country, and in other countries. I can remember when first grade rugby league players held down day jobs and played the sport for the love of it, now they're giving 20 year old boys huge salaries, treating them like movie stars and then wondering why they get into trouble with drink and drugs and all sorts of other things.
Day two of Em's new regime. Two mornings in a row that she has got herself out of bed and dressed without us nagging her. She made up a little chart and put it on the fridge and she has one sticker for a full day at school, when she has five she gets her tv back in her room. I even had time to give them a cooked breakfast this morning. They both went off to school very happily, I'm sure having breakfast makes all the difference to their moods. I have Up and Go in the fridge all the time so even if they don't want to eat they still have something in their stomachs. My mother made us a hot breakfast most mornings from memory. No reason why I can't do the same. Usually it's just a fried egg on toast here, the bacon and hashbrowns were a treat today. Mum would do beans on toast, creamed corn on toast, scrambled eggs, sometimes even steak and egg. I wasn't as fussy an eater as my own kids are though.
Emily said she felt she did really well in her English exam yesterday because she studied for it very thoroughly and knew all her work. She also thinks she did well in her science exam. Only one today, Art this afternoon, and she always does well in that. I love it when the wonderful girl I know she is shines through all the other crap. It gives me such hope for her future. If we can just guide her safely through these minefield teenage years she'll be fine. I hope.
Phill came home last night and had a look at the filter on the washing machine and came in with Em's charm bracelet, a two dollar coin, a silver door key and a straw. No wonder it wasn't pumping water! We've only had the machine a bit over a year, it's a front loader and I love it after being reluctant to switch from the top loaders we'd always had. I rarely need to use stain treaters anymore, and with an Emily in the house that's saying something. So now it's working again and I am very relieved.
I made my salmon quiche last night, but with red salmon that was on special rather than the pink I normally use. We all noticed a difference and decided we'd always make it with red. It's such an easy and quick recipe, Em doesn't eat it, so Josh usually has two servings he loves it so much, and as it's a Weight Watchers recipe it's low fat. I just spray a quiche dish with cooking spray then overlap four sheets of filo pastry, I buy the refrigerated one not the frozen one as it's much easier to work with. I just put each sheet at a different angle then fold the excess in. 1/4 cup of finely chopped onion with a 425g of salmon, I just buy the generic brand. Sprinkle over a tablespoon of lemon juice, some pepper and about a tablespoon of chopped chives. I have then growing but in the past I've used dried chives or even dill. Mix two eggs with a cup of skim milk and pour over, then top with grated low fat tasty cheese. I think it's 60g, I don't measure mine anymore. Bake at about 180C for about 45 minutes or until the filling is set and it's nice and brown on top. I serve it with a salad.
I'm doing lamb kofta tonight with minted yoghurt and fried rice as Em requested it.
We got some lovely rain overnight, complete with thunder and lightning. Phill and I sat out on the back porch with all the fairy lights on, and enjoyed it. It's still a bit drizzly and overcast today but action man got out and hung all the washing out (that I couldn't get done yesterday) and has put all the dry washing away except for a big pile that is right here by me on the bed. So I better get moving and get that done.
Oh and the orange stuff I mentioned is a carpet and upholstery cleaner that I get in both Woolworths and IGA here and it's called Orange Power I think. My carpet guy said it's the only thing we should ever use for spot cleaning. But he then added some of his own industrial strength orange stuff into my bottle and I still have some so it's probably better than just the cleaner on its own. We're going to find out where we can get the heavy duty stuff as it really gets out anything.

my, that quiche sounds yummy. Perhaps I'll give it a go- if I do I'll let you know how it turns out.
Funny about Tiger Woods. I feel a bit sorry those guys. I think it ends up being a lot of pressure. After a point if he won, well he was supposed to wasn't he? And if he didn't well then everybody wants to know why. And until all the 'scandal' I thought he did a rather good job of keeping the tvs & cameras away from his wife and kids at least-
But I'm with you. Really, why are they news?
you asked about a cinche sack- its a bit like a back pack but a really simply structure. Or think of it as a bag that pulls shut, but instead of just being a hand bag size, its made a bit bigger and goes as a back pack.
Anyway - if I sew the t-shirt to denim, then it ought to be strong enough to withstand lugging her things around.
My grandson uses a ciche sack as his locker at school is too small for a back pack to fit in.
It has a drawstring to pull it closed.
His is nylon and we have had to stitch it up once already.
Glad the washer is fixed.
Washing clothes by hand is no fun.
Just ask me! :0(
Them were the days I'd like to forget. :0)
THX for the Orange Power tip.
(((hugs)))
you can keep him if you'd like..

That sounds so lovely - these are the things I really miss - just being so comfortable with someone you love and doing something so simple as this - believe it - these are the good old days
