Some pretty purple irises have appeared in the front garden and the rose bushes are slowly coming back to life after a good pruning earlier in the year. Living in these old houses with established gardens is fun as the first year goes by and various things spring up.
We don't know whether Crazy Landlady will want to renew our lease next month but I could care less. It's not pleasant knowing the tiny little greasy people next door are watching us and reporting to her, even though we're doing nothing wrong. I did some research and we could sue them if we were so inclined. I'm starting to video tape the next door dog who barks every single afternoon for two or three hours so I have some evidence when we complain. And if we can't open the kids' bedroom windows this Summer because of them sitting smoking on their front porch there will be another complaint. It's an unpleasant aspect of living in a country town that we've encountered before. Small minded people that have never been, or lived, anwhere else and think that all "outsiders" are no good.
Well I'm off to fight with the weather trying to get washing dried. Phill just said if they get the rain that is predicted up north he may come home for the weekend due to them not being able to load wheat trains in the wet. He's been away for both of his two last birthdays, including his 50th and I think he was away for Fathers' Day last year so it will be good if he's here for it this year.
I had some turkey mince yesterday and asked the kids if they wanted "long burgers" as I had some long bread rolls to use up. Em asked if I could just make a wet mixture of the turkey to have on the rolls and I thought of that American dish the Sloppy Joe. We googled it and made up our own mixture by browning the meat then adding hoi sin, oyster and worcestershire sauces, some garlic powder, a baggie of pureed brocolli ( I get the vegies in when I can!) and thickened it with some cornflour. I toasted my roll but they didn't want theirs toasted so I just kind of pushed the bread down to make a little hollow and served the turkey on that. They were surprisingly good, the kids loved them so we'll definitely do that again for a quick easy dinner.
Not sure what to make tonight. It's so different cooking when Phill isn't here. Salmon would be nice, might see if I can get some tails.
It's going to bloody rain all over my washing. Again.

Fighting with the weather is such a great description of what it is like to get things dry. I am so relieved that this is the end of our coldest wettest winter in 16 years. Bring on the spring I say
I do not like having to figure out what to cook every day. It is a challenge sometimes to chop and change things around. You are right what you said on my comments section, fresh is great and especially if you grow it yourself.
Re the frost.. we have been babysitting the tomatoes especially from the frost. All taking turns to bring the seedlings in and out of the place from the frost. These past few days we have left them outside night and day.. they seem to be surviving.
Unreal your kids are now both teens! Time has flown since I first met you via our blogs!
Great you are coming to Melbourne later in the year.. I hope the weather is great for you all. :)

Raining here as well - but really humid - forgot how bad humid feels
