Politics - It's a Mug's Game

I have never seen a more ridiculous and pointless Federal election campaign than this one.  Gone are the days when the major political parties in this country were left or right wing.  They all kind of just meld together now with both sides going with the flow of popular opinion rather than having their own concrete policies.
For many years I was a conscientious objector to compulsory voting, as I believe that when people are forced to vote and penalised for not doing so there could be no true gauge of a country's opinions.  I changed my mind when something happened that I felt really strongly about and have voted thoughtfully in every election since then.
But for that buffoon Mark Latham to go on 60 Minutes last night and implore people to vote informal is just ludicrous.  Latham was the mayor of Liverpool when I lived there in the early 90s and I remember hearing him speak at a local fete and thinking even then "what an idiot".  And he was once contender for PM not so long ago!
We may have a couple of dodgy choices this time around, but people in other countries are dying for the right to vote and have a say in their country's government.  I will do some more reading, some more digging and choose what I consider to be the lesser of two evils come polling day this Saturday and be glad I have the right to have a say in who runs this amazing country of ours.
Oh and George Negus, if you're reading this (and I know you are) I just saw you on the 7.30 Project and buddy, it's time to hang up the typewriter.  Just retire.  Step away from the television studios and all will be forgiven.
A radio interviewer accused Julia Gillard (PM) of calling Tony Abbott (Opposition Leader) "Mr Rabbit".  She appeared taken aback by this accusation and it made me giggle.  But today I listened to  her and that's exactly what it sounds like!!!  Mr McGregor watch out!
