You Can Call me Granny

My daughter and her husband and my gorgeous grandson arrived today.  Harvey has grown SO MUCH!  He's a little boy now not so much a baby.  He's almost nine months old and wants to stand up.  Anywhere.  He "commando crawls" about the place, so, so cute.  I got to hold him this evening when he was a bit tired and cranky and he laid on me and calmed down a bit.

I have always been "Grandma" to Jake because that is what my mother is to my kids and I couldn't think of anything better at the time.  Ali always refers to me as "Granny" and I am coming to really like that.  She doesn't want Phill to be "Pop" as he is/was with Jake as her father is called that.  And we are fine with it but we can't come up with another name.  Any suggestions?  We don't really see the Harvster often enough for him to make up a name for him.

Little Harvey has a cold and was a bit miserable.  I hope he's sleeping, safe and warm with his mum and dad tonight.

I am wrung out and exhausted tonight and know I won't sleep well due to what is ailing me so am staying up as long as I can muster.  Middle age sucks.  But I am Granny.  And I like being Granny with Harvey.

Wow! That went quick! My kids call my dad Grandad and Sb's dad Dede (he is Turkish) In Turkey they have a different name depending on which set of parents it is, so to my girls children I would be called nene which is short for anne anne (mums mum) but to the boys I would be baba -anne which translates to dads mum. LOL too easy. I think I would rather be nana though. Just had a giggle remembering when my oldest was a toddler, she used to call her granny Baba which means dad! It kind of stuck for years and we all called her that.

I never liked the name Pop so never used it. Others in our family have Pa or Granpa

I plan on being Oma, which is German for grandmother. My kids call my father Papa. Was surprised to hear that my husband wants the same name when my daughter finally gets around to making us grandparents.

My mum was Nannie and Don's mum was Nana - there were no live grandfathers - but my grandfather was always grandfather...
