In Sickness and In Health

About 1am Phill wakes up in distress, he is having trouble breathing and is extremely dizzy, even lying down.  While I try to wake myself up, he gets up to get some water and can barely walk.  I immediately think it's his heart or a stroke, as he has high blood pressure and has had warnings about his heart before with his work medicals.  We wait a bit, but then he says we should go to the hospital.  This scared the shit out of me, Phill is as tough as old boots and can be derisive of others' illnesses at times.  I got dressed and got him into some clothes, he vomited in the driveway, and off we drove through the cold darkness up to the hospital.  They were wonderful, did some tests including an ECG which was fairly normal.  A doctor was found, (they are getting younger!) and after a lot of questions decided it was something called "Labyrinthitis" which is an inner ear problem that causes exactly the symptoms Phill was experiencing.  He was still feeling really crook but we were both relieved that it wasn't what we thought it was.  They gave him an injection of Stemetil and after a while he was able to get up, although still wonky, and I brought him home.  He is sound asleep now but I am not, due to his snoring, but he's alive and he's okay and I can sleep later.
It got me thinking about marriage and love and all the problems we've had.  I could not imagine my life without him, for all his faults and his carrying on.  There are seasons in a marriage, and for us now I can see it's about taking care of each other, I know I can rely on him completely, and I want him to know he can rely on me as well.  I looked at him lying in that hospital bed feeling so sick, and knew that I would always be there for him as he will be for me, no matter what.
Now we just have to figure out how to stop him snoring.
