My healthy eating is having amazing results. It's different to being on Weight Watchers, I'm not restricting the amount I eat, I eat when I'm hungry and until I'm satisfied, but it's the purity of the foods I'm eating that is making the difference. Heaps of fresh fruit and vegetables, wholegrains, nuts and seeds, a little chicken (tonight will be the first red meat I've had in ages not counting those awful curried sausages), a lot of oily fish, no alcohol or caffeine and not much bread. Lots of water, some apple cider vinegar, my supplements (milk thistle, calcium, magnesium, St Johns Wort, executive B, Menoease), some soy milk and decaf green tea as well as my new discovery as of today, nettle tea which appears to have magical properties. I am feeling energetic, strong and clear headed, and more importantly, on an even keel mentally. And feeling better every day. My sleep has taken a while to get into a good pattern, Phill's snoring has had an impact although I got him to realign his "Ripsnore" mouthpiece yesterday and last night I didn't even hear him, I slept really well. I have been taking Valerian and on some nights a Swisse Sleep formula which has other stuff in it. The kids are both eating wholemeal bread (after vowing they never would) and I am slowly changing other bad habits around here.
There are two little garden plots out by the backdoor, they look like freshly filled in graves. When we moved in they were just tangles of weeds but I cleared them and watered and fed them and up came herbs, in one of them anyway.
There is some gorgeous healthy mint, lush oregano and a sturdy thyme plant and a bit of flat leaf parsley on the other side.
I planted a silver beet plant and some basil. I put a few rosemary cuttings in from a plant on the other side of the yard and the frost got them but I think they'll come good. I also planted a Thai chilli plant.
In the other plot I put the rest of the basil seedlings and some baby spinach and chives. The soil is quite friable and good, I might put in some carrots or radish. I'm not a confident gardener, Phill has always taken over but I am determined these little plots are mine, for better or worse and I'm enjoying tending them.
That is my bay tree, with new shoots on it. I use bay leaves a lot in cooking, it's lovely to just go out and pick one or two.
So now I have all of the above herbs as well as sage, tarragon, and curly parsley growing in my garden, right near the kitchen door.
I'm going to do the beef pies for tonight, but I'm also going to make some Chicken, Leek and Tarragon pies to freeze. It will be handy to have a selection of both in the freezer for a quick and easy meal.
Now bring on the warmer weather!
