I went outside early on Sunday morning to find some galahs gathered near the pool drinking the water! I don't know if the chemicals would affect them but you'd think they'd have some sort of instinct about what is safe to drink and what isn't.
I love galahs, we've had a soft spot for them ever since Emily rescued an injured one from the high school in Junee when we lived there, we had bird enclosures down the back in that house and Phill put him in one and nursed him back to health, then we let him go back to his flock and he was fine. Em called him Cecil.
This one cleverly perched right atop the handle of the pool vaccuum cleaner brush.
They are such playful birds, there is a flock that seems to live nearby, I see them almost every day in the front yard across the road picking at worms and grubs in the lawn over there.
Today we had a light hail storm and Phill and Emily and I went out onto the front verandah to watch it, and up on the power lines were two galahs dancing and cavorting up there, enjoying the rain and doing all sorts of acrobats. You could imagine them saying to one another "Hey! Watch this!" before performing some crazy antic.
We've decided to get some wild bird seed and put a feeder on the roof of the pool filter housing. Well once this rain stops anyway. It's been so warm, I was in the pool yesterday but today we had this storm and it's turned cold again.
Poor Josh is in bed with a cold. When he gets sick he just doesn't eat and it's so frustrating, even though he's always been that way and will eat again when he's feeling better. As a mother though you want to feed them and take care of them. He is drinking plenty of water and nibbling on dry crackers. I'm keeping him home for the rest of the week so he's well for our holiday that starts on Sunday. I know they don't really do any serious school work in the last week of term and tomorrow is a half day anyway.
We're going down to the far south coast for five nights to a town that is on the coast and also on two lakes. Phill wanted to go to Bourke but I wasn't interested in going so he decided we'd go to the coast instead and I was all over that. I reckon we've got a better chance of catching fish down there anyway. We're taking the boat and the cabin we've booked is right on the water's edge so we can tie the boat up right outside and leave it in the water instead of having to take it in and out. I'm really looking forward to it. For so many years we couldn't afford to take the kids away in the school holidays and it's nice that we can do it now while they're still home with us.
So now I have Josh's cold as well but since I'm not a man I won't take to my bed. I asked Em the other day if she was going in the pool and she replied that she was going to but Josh had a "man cold". He is miserable though poor thing and he is trying to be cheerful.
I made the Curried Sausages recipe that I made up and is on my recipe blog, for dinner last night. It really is a nice recipe and so easy and cheap. Tonight I'm making my Chicken Caesar Salad, although now it's turned cold I am kind of wishing I'd planned something else!
