Well it would seem that only those of us of a certain age do. Only 100 or so people gathered in Canberra this evening to greet her plane. Poor thing still had to perform her duties after a marathon flight, she's 85, couldn't they have let her go straight to Yarralumla and have a g&t, watch Home and Away and just have a rest? Apparently only a crowd of about 20 were waiting for her there and I think they were all Indian exchange students or something, hanging around the embassies. Wondering what happened to the Raj no doubt.
This is in stark contrast to her visit in 1954 when it was estimated that at least 75% of the Australian population saw the Queen as she toured Australia.
We grew up loving the Queen, she came to the throne before I was born and we sang "God Save the Queen" for our national anthem, and had a portrait of her hanging in our classrooms. Australia is almost ready to become a republic but the royal family is so much a part of our heritage and our history, right or wrong. I love the history behind it all. I told the children to watch the news as this was history in the making, it will be the last time our dear old queen sets foot on our soil. Perhaps the last time a monarch visits when they are still our head of state. They appeared mildly interested but then admitted that they didn't really care. They're probably too distracted by how our current Prime Minister continues to get away with being a borderline communist.
They did ask what would happen if she suddenly dropped dead while she was here. Interesting thought. Well if it was good enough for Tony Hancock................

Nothing borderline about Juliar's communistic behaviours - she and her ilk scare the bejesus out of me - imagine a future where all our freedoms are taken away "in the public interest" George Orwell described what is well progressed right now -
