What a Pretty Morning!

A low lying mist was swirling just below the hills while a pinky orange flush glowed behind them.  I am loving these early mornings now I'm in a good sleep routine at last.  Phill didn't get home until 6am from work in Melbourne, just as I was getting up which worked out well for me, I had another good night's sleep after a bit of a hectic day yesterday.
Got the kids off to school yesterday, then went and did the big grocery shop and came home, but the phone rang about 10.45 saying Josh was "sick".  I asked if they were sure as he was fine when I dropped him off and had eaten a hot breakfast (cheese omelette) and if there was maybe something else going on.  The office girl didn't know so I went and got him.  I should not  have answered the phone, as was my old policy, a bit of time cooling his heels in sick bay usually gets him bored and back to class.  He was saying he thought he had his sinus infection back but he just has a bloody cold.  Oh well, he has been pretty good in going to school lately, if he wants a day in bed today I'm not going to get my knickers in a knot about it.  I picked up Emily just before midday for her individual therapy session.  She was upset but wouldn't tell me why, and said she had been talking to Mrs A for some reason, she is one of the career advisors, but knows Emily through the mentoring programme last year.  I dropped Em and came home and did some stuff then went and got her and she told her she had been getting picked on in class, they had been ripping up her work etc.  I take all this with a grain of salt now, as she lies so much and makes things up.  My attitude now is that unless she is bruised or bleeding, school problems must be handled at school and I don't need to go charging up there every five minutes to defend her.  I found some pretty disturbing stuff on her FB page yesterday, I can't believe some of the lies she tells people, just stupid things for no apparent reason.  These are all life lessons she needs to learn from on her own.  All I can do is guide her, and I have to be careful how I even do that.  She spat the dummy as we were getting dinner last night and yelled at me.  I just left the room as is my habit now when I get that from either her, or her father.  I won't be shouted at.  She flounced off to her room and slammed the door.  Later she came out and apologised and I accepted and all was fine.  Door slamming used to be my MO when I was a teen.  My mum loves telling the story of how pissed off I was when we moved into a house with sliding doors.  Do you know how hard it is to slam a sliding door?  One day we'll all laugh about these years too, I know we will and that puts it into perspective for me.
So we didn't have to drive to Young for the DBT course yesterday, we just went up to the MPC instead which was really nice, I wish it was there every week.  I thoroughly enjoyed the session, I am giving it my all and getting as much out of it as I can.  The girls running it are young and I suspect this is the first time they have done this, but they are doing a great job and you can tell their hearts are really in it.  We will not waste this opportunity.  I sensed Em is a bit bored by it, although she denied that when I suggested it and told her it will be more interesting as time goes on.  She's like her father, she appears not to be taking things in but later will quote something, or act on something that shows me she is taking more notice than I think she is.
I am doing well, am learning to change my thinking and just let some things be what they are.  If things get on top of me for whatever reason, I just let myself feel the feelings and have a bit of a weep if I feel like it and get it out of my system and move on, instead of the old way of thinking the world was ending and I had to DO something about it, whether that was self medicating, or some stupid knee jerk reaction.  You CAN teach an old dog new tricks, that is one thing I'm sure of.
A family came late yesterday and took three of the kittens, one for each of their little boys.  The boys were gentle with them and were so excited to be getting their own kitten, I questioned the parents to make sure they would be well cared for and as much as I could from that short meeting I felt good about them.  They are on a property out of town so they have the room and they assured me they would make sure the boys looked after them properly.  The youngest one, a little fellow of about five or six, was particularly gentle with Neville, the one he chose, and a fine choice too, Nev is a quiet, laid back little cat.  I hope they will be happy and I think they will be, and Em was really pleased that they all went together.  Only one left now and two people are interested and supposedly coming to look today, first in best dressed.  I am going to keep Harley in the shed each night now, it's warm and comfy in there, and ring the vet and see if they can spay her sooner rather than later, they keep saying they can't do it until three weeks after the kittens stop feeding but she is usually pregnant again by then!  And I've noticed she hasn't wanted a bar of feeding this litter for quite a while and they are certainly fully weaned and eating solid food with gusto.
Only in the country!  This is a statue of a man who grew up in Junee.  It was unveiled there over the weekend with much fanfare and publicity.  Want to know what he has done in his life to warrant such an honour?  What he has contributed to the world, how he has enriched the lives of his fellow man?  He is a SPORTS COMMENTATOR.  Yep, he calls footy matches on the radio and the telly.  I actually like this bloke, but come on, he calls football.  He didn't invent a cure for cancer, he didn't save anyone's life or really do anything out of the ordinary, just grew up in a small town and got a pretty good gig calling sport.  He was clearly embarrassed by it all.  The statue stands across from where we used to live.  I'm glad we don't live there anymore and have to see that every time we look out our front window.  And it doesn't even really look like him.
I've never seen him wear a brown suit.

LATER............
Emily decided she was "sick" this morning as well.  I did my best to get her out of bed but wasn't going to get into a fight with her.  I just told her that she is breaking the agreement we had and I would be cancelling the hair appointment for this afternoon and I wouldn't be buying her any credit for her phone.  I showered and dressed, made up a reason, left a note for Phill and jumped in my cute little borrowed red car and drove to Wagga, I really needed a break away for a little while.  I love driving, and it was a really lovely morning.  I took a detour as I drove through Junee to check out the statue mentioned above.  OMG it is in a little reserve, as I said, across from two houses we lived in in Seignor Street right by the railway station.  It's just sitting up like Jackie in a patch of dirt practically screaming "Okay fellas get drunk on Friday night and blow me up" especially given that it's also right across from the roughest pub in town (we know we lived next door to it!)  I giggled as I drove away.  Now I'm not wishing ill on old Ray up there, but I know my old home town well, and the yobs who cause trouble every single weekend.  Watch this space for statue updates. *kabOOM*
I checked out the new Spotlight store which they have relocated from the top of the main street into the empty Bunnings warehouse store out of town a bit.  I was excited I thought it was going to be a super Spotlight or something.  Spotlight sells fabrics, homewares, craft supplies, manchester and other stuff.  When I got up there I was disappointed to find they'd just used a small part of the old Bunnings and it seemed smaller than the original store.  I went back to town and looked around the shops a bit and bought a lip gloss and came home but it was just what I needed.
Phill and I drove up to Young to pay some off Josh's birthday lay by and I lay byed him a sound system for Fathers Day.  He loves his movies, he'll put it with the biggest tv in the family room (from now on to be known as the "Media Room", how cool does that sound?)
And I'm having the best Friday night ever, the others had homemade pizza but I wanted something healthy so I made some miso soup with tofu and mushrooms, and ate it in bed watching pay tv, so comfy.  Oh, and a hot Milo.  Bliss.

I think it's funny about the statue maybe you'll get one, "survived children well into adulthood" or maybe that is what mine will say? :)
It's very sweet about the kittens

They made a statue of that mongrel Al grassby to stick up somewhere in Canberra but were unable to put it up due to the feeling against him - and the Griffith connection - lucky that Don Mackay's kids are still able to fight for their father - I sort of wish it had been left out in the open and been desecrated
