Intrepid Sailors - Yep That's Us

Phill has backing the boat into the water down to fine art.
Oh yes the park was so crowded we had trouble finding a table.
Yes it looks a bit suss, but the hotdogs and sausages were yummy in fresh crusty rolls on a freezing day.
Yep it was crowded alright, people everywhere.
The car park was bumper to bumper.
And as you can see water space was at a premium.
Yum bbqed hotdogs and pink champagne, who cares that it was FREEZING.
And there were the sheep.  There's always the sheep.
Emily did most of the driving today and she is very capable and takes instruction from her father well.  She did hoon about a bit at the end but there was no one else on the lake (we're the only crazy ones) and it was quite fun.
Our little boat goes like the clappers and we love her.

Today my firstborn, Alison Rose, turns 32.
Doesn't matter how many years pass, the births of my children are always so clear in my memory.  Ali was only two days overdue and we agreed to have the labour induced.  Imagine that today!  It was all about the convenience of the doctors in those days.  We were lined up like cattle in the "induction" ward of King George V hospital in Sydney.  Made to lay flat on our backs and offered "laughing gas" (nitrous oxide) when the pain got too bad.  My next obstetrician told me he'd been to Uni with this guy and his nickname was "Punchy".  She was finally born and I was a mother at the tender age of just 19.  I had no idea what I was doing, but the three of us muddled through and were so happy, we had no money and lived in a daggy furnished flat in an inner suburb of Sydney.  That song "Hungry Years" by Neil Sedaka always reminds me of those days.

The family picnic didn't get rained out after all yesterday and a good time was had by all.
These are my children, my nieces and nephews and my great nephew.  Back row right are my oldest daughter, birthday girl Ali, with her brother, my oldest son Nicholas holding my darling little grandson Harvey.
Left in the front row is my second daughter Amanda with her son, my gorgeous grandson Jake.  Yes he is wearing a jacket and tie.  He's going to be an actor you know.
I'm sorry I didn't get to see them all, especially my brother's boy who is standing next to Nick who I haven't seen since he was a baby (my brother and his wife are idiots and the kids are starting to realise it now and want to know us).  But it wasn't meant to be this time.  I think I'll plan something when the weather warms up and see who turns up.
So we had such fun out on the boat today at Lake Centenary at Temora, it's something all four of us just really love to do and we could just forget about our worries and the coming dramas and relax and enjoy
And freeze our tits off.

Out here on the plains in the States, we are in a wave of 100+ (F) weather at the moment. A little freezing sounds pretty good right now.

BTW, those photos of the terrain could have been taken here in Nebraska in November or so.

What a wonderful post - how strange that my youngest is actually Alison Rebecca Rose (her confirmation name)and is close to your Alison's age as well. The name Alison just came to me out of the blue after she was born - where did your name "Alison " come from?

Therese it is a co incidence isn't it? I had a baby name book and just really liked the name. I tried to give all my children nice, but "normal" names that they could shorten if they chose to. Rose actually came from Days of Our Lives believe it or not, there was a sweet little girl named Jennifer Rose. Emily's middle name is Rose also.
