Now He Tells Me!

Phill and I went down town today and he said he wanted to get his blood pressure checked at the chemist.  There were no signs up and he seemed reluctant to go in and ask.  He kind of hung around and in the end they were looking at him very suspiciously like he was a druggie about to rob them or something.  So I just went in and asked and they did.  His reading was extremely high and they berated him for going off the original medication he was on and renewed his script and told him to go to the doctor.  He's always had high blood pressure and high cholestorol and I gave up worrying because he refused to modify his diet, cut down his drinking and lose weight.  But I did some research today and it's scary stuff.  I've had one high bp reading in my life and that was stress and never happened again.  He's scared too and admitted that he's been feeling unwell for a while and has chest pains every day!  So that's it.  We're going back to cooking low fat and I'm going to start buying salt reduced everything, even though he doesn't eat a lot of salt.  But there's salt hidden in so many things, and I've taken to adding salt to some things I cook although I never used to.  We all need to lose weight, but this is life threatening for him and we have to do it.  When I was on Weight Watchers we ate really well and I still have all my recipe books as well as the Syms recipe books so there is no excuse.
But guess what I had marinating in the fridge for dinner tonight?
Yep yummy Butter Chicken.  I used low fat yoghurt I think for the marinade but it was full fat butter and full fat cream and it was lovely, but it was also our last hurrah.  There are low fat versions of it, name any dish and I reckon I could find you a low fat, low salt version of it, or modify it.
The kids had a full day at school today, miracle of miracles and my mission now, should I choose to accept it, is to get us into a comfortable and predictable routine.  They even happily took a packed lunch, and Em actually ate hers!  A ham wrap.  Josh didn't eat his sandwich and still bought some greasy snack from the canteen with the small amount of money I gave them to buy a cold drink.  I won't give up.   It's not just the money with them buying their lunch each day, they buy rubbish, Josh more so and it's not good for them.  I don't know why schools even sell chips and soft drinks, they are diet soft drinks but the chemicals in those are as bad as the sugar in the normal ones.
We took Em and old Spittin' Kim down to the pool the other day and as they got out of the car I said "Behave yourselves."  Em turned around and walked back to the car and said "What did you say?"  I told her and said "What did you think I said?"  She said "I thought you said 'Go f*ck yourselves' ".  Oh my God I'm still giggling, especially as I would NEVER say that to them for any reason.  She makes me laugh every day, we had to go down to get them calculators and diaries today and she had everyone in the shop laughing with her patter.  She really is the "little girl with the little curl".  When she's good she's very, very good and when she's bad............well you know the rest.
