Two years ago, almost to the day, I sat glued to the tv watching the tragedy that was the Victorian bush fires unfold before my eyes. So many lives were lost then, and here I sit today watching the Queensland flood disaster as slowly the death toll rises, and so many people who have lost their homes. Brisbane is now in flood as the river has burst its banks. Can you imagine that happening in a capital city? Sydney isn't on a river but imagine the Yarra flooding Melbourne CBD? Just seems so weird. Phill's brother and his wife live in Brisbane but according to their son just now on Facebook they live high up although the floods are very close to them. His nephew and his wife and baby however can't be contacted by phone and the water is heading right for them apparently. I'm sure, I hope, they had plenty of time to get out, unlike the poor people in Toowoomba who were hit by what they're calling an inland tsunami and that's just what it looked like.
Well the word just came through that Phill's nephew and his family got out by tinny (a little boat) and are waiting to be evacuated. So many weren't so lucky.

I know! Its freaking me out! Makes our floods a couple of years back look like puddles. Keeping in contact with those we know up there! All safe so far, but a family friend is down from Tenterfield and very worried about his wife and kids now. Apparently the town is cut in two! Yikes.
Horrific! Heartbreaking!!!
My thoughts and prayers go out to all involved.
Not a word spoken on any news stations about this disaster have I heard in the states.
I've been following it..I have a friend in Sydney and he has relatives in the flooded area..just heart breaking...
its on the news here in the US too - horrific - I'm glad you've had word from Phill's family. Strength & stamina to the rescuers!
Its completely freaky. My husband's brother lives in Brisbane with twin boys. They are safe and housing a couple of other people whose houses are not. I spoke to him yesterday and he said they were fine, but not able to get fresh veggies, milk, bread, or eggs. They seemed in high spirits really, but that could also be shock.
