Caillin asked about billabongs, this explains it.
"Rivers Continuing in Time
How Billabongs Are Formed
A billabong is an isolated pond left behind after a river changes course. Diagram by Questacon.
A billabong ('bill-a-bong') is a body of water, like a large pond.
A billabong forms when a river changes its course, leaving a section cut off from the new river. When the river floods every wet season, the water in the billabong flows again as it connects up with the main river. Because of this the water stays fresh and supports an abundance of life.
Eventually the river breaks through the base of the loop and the extra bit that detaches forms a billabong. Billabongs can also be formed when a pool of water is left behind when flood or tidal waters recede.
The word billabong comes from the Wiradjuri ('weir-add-jeer-ee') language of south western New South Wales: bila meaning 'river' and bang meaning 'continuing in time or space'. Billabong is now in common use throughout Australia."
I did not know it was a Wiradjuri term, that tribe is local to this area.
I'm sitting here in bed at 5.30am been up for an hour waiting for the call to get in the car and drive to Junee to pick up Phill from work. It's cold and raining and blowing a gale out there. Glad I kept some warm pants and jumpers out when I put away the Winter clothes.
As soon as Phill left yesterday Emily started again. I knew it would get worse before it got better but the name calling is very hard to take. She wanted her computer monitor back and I said "no" as she hadn't cleaned her room. She did go in and tidy it up although I suspect she just threw everything into her wardrobe but I was then punishing her for the name calling. She has a foul mouth when she gets going. In the end I told her I couldn't physically stop her from bringing the monitor up from the shed. She could barely lift it, it's one of the old fashioned ones and very heavy. Phill said he'd just take it away again when he gets home today. I hate having to defer to him, I should be able to handle her on my own but she knew I wasn't happy with her and I didn't back down and things were very tense for the rest of the afternoon and evening.
Bloody cat has put the kitten behind the bookcase, right up the end and I can't reach him without taking everything off it and moving it. He's okay and she got in and fed him this morning before I let her out but he can't stay there. I'll get Phill to help me get him out later and then block it off.
Oh I forgot to report the other gem of the Crazy Landlady when she came the other day. She told me we were lucky we had water, so many people in third world countries don't. Um, I know that but this is Australia in 2010 and we've had running water since the 1800s. What an idiot. And now the oven isn't working and there are five days till Christmas and turkey cooking time. I will ring the agent first thing and also tell them how the oven doesn't appear to have a thermostat, even turned right down it tends to burn things and the gas rings are also dodgy temperature wise. Hopefully they will replace the stove. Dopey landlords who put in the cheapest stoves don't realise it's false economy. When our stove wasn't working in Sydney the idiot owner got a new, bottom of the range stove and we were forever having people out to fix it.
Anyway a new stove, even a cheapie will be good and a nice Christmas expense for CL.
Emily has lost her gold locket that I gave her for her birthday last year. I suspect she threw it away in temper as she keeps changing her story. I'm really upset as I went to a lot of trouble to find it, it had a little pink rose etched into the front (Rose is her middle name) and I had her initial engraved on it. And it had a tiny photo of Sarah inside. I won't buy her any more jewellery and Phill can handle her 15th birthday present as I'm so sick of her wrecking things. She's a bit like Phill in that regard, she doesn't appreciate anything.
Well this second cup of tea has warmed me up a bit but I still don't want to get out of my bed and into that car. Weird to think it's almost Christmas and I'm sitting here in my Winter dressing gown with my electric blanket on.

A heating blanket and flannel bedwear might not be what you are use to, but it's NORM for New Enland. ;0)
Hubby does not like a heating blanket.
He rather complain he's cold. :0(
Wish you were able to put some sense in Emilys head.
Deferred from saying knock some sense.
Only when she is grown and on her own will she realize she had it Sooooo GOOD when she lived at home.
(((hugs)))
