We have the fish in one of those old fashioned concrete double laundry tubs and today he finally managed to knock a hole in the dividing wall. The fish love it, they just swim in and out, in and out. They have so much space now and it gives them a bit of fun as well. We have two pumps in there now so hopefully the water won't get green and slimy so quickly.
Our mint has come back really well in the other half buried laundry tub. I'm going to make my mint jelly. It's a recipe I got off Mum years ago and I always used to make it at Christmas time to give away to teachers etc with other home made goodies like shortbread. We want to make up a gift basket for Julie, Emily's mentor, as Em's last mentoring day is Thursday week so I thought I'd put some mint jelly in it.
The flat leaf parsley we planted under Emily's window around the side is taking off too. I might get enough to make some tabouli for a bbq one weekend.
When I came outside this morning I pondered the age old question. Perhaps pigs really CAN fly?
The little pergola is once again covered in lush green vines. We've never really used it, we had the big outdoor table in there at one stage last year but didn't sit in there much. It looks pretty though.
The grape vines have masses of tiny baby grapelets.
Only the pumpkin plant and something else that I can't remember, remain. The watermelon seeds haven't come up yet and this afternoon we went and got some rockmelon seedlings and another cucumber as well.
| Here's something else that's home grown, our own adorable boy Noah who was born on our bathroom floor and is proving to be a lovely, funny cat. |
I have a small lamb leg roast in the electric frypan with potato, pumpkin and sweet potato for Phill and I. Silly kids don't like their Mum's roast dinners they'll have something else.
Tomorrow is Josh's 13th birthday and we're going out for the day so we're going to have an early dinner and an early night hopefully.
