My blogger friend Jackie (Yellowdog Grannie) lives in West, Texas and having followed her for years now I feel like I know her little town (she often posts "West, Texas News" with excerpts from the local paper which I love to read). I heard of the explosion in Texas but not knowing my geography well I didn't realise till just now that it had actually happened in West. Worse, the nursing home in which Jackiesue used to volunteer so wonderfully has been hit by the explosion and some of those dear folk may be trapped or injured. She talked a lot about the residents of West Rest Haven and would post lovely photos of events she would stage there for the residents. I even sent a postcard there once! Glued to the news here so worried about them all there. Thank goodness Jackie just posted on FB that she is fine, but she must have seen some pretty bad things helping out with the elderly residents of the nursing home.
Just makes me wonder why these things happen to good people who are just going about their daily lives.
We had a good day yesterday, we needed two new tyres for the car before our trip so Phill and I drove into Wagga on our own. Got the kids some new hoodies and some new pjs for Phill, then took the car down to the tyre place and walked across the highway for lunch at the Farmers Home pub. We've been there before, it's a really nice little pub with excellent food. We even won a bit on the pokies! Went back and got the car, got a great deal on the tyres it's worth the trip into the city to have them done. I paid a bit off Kate's ring and we came home, it was a really nice day just for the two of us. When we got home Emily had turned every single picture hanging on the walls to a wonky angle, even a framed calligraphy I had sitting on the bookcase because the hook fell off was turned side on. She's crazy, but it was funny.
The kids diet has been appalling lately, it's so hard to get them to eat properly. So today I made a spicy tomato sauce, with four kinds of veg in it, the usual puree cauli and broc, some finely grated carrot and some finely chopped red capsicum. Same went into a batch of meatballs apart from the capsicum. They can either just have the meatballs with chips and salad, or over pasta with the sauce, their choice. I also made a batch of hummus and showed Em how to make it.
Tomorrow we have a sales inspection (last one ever I hope!) and then I have to get the packing done for our trip.
Can you believe the Kiwis signed off on gay marriage and we're still dragging the chain. Stupid.
