We drove to Wagga yesterday so Phill could sign this tax thingie. He stuffed up big time on two tax returns (because he was too mean to pay a tax agent). I wasn't going to go with them as I'd had another horrible night with the hot flushes and sweats and his cursed snoring. But I knew I needed to get out of the house and the thought of a bit of Christmas browsing was appealing. Stupid me, how soon I forget what a nightmare it is to go out with the kids, they're either whingeing or asking for stuff. Aargh!
I didn't get to browse or to shop much although I got a lovely set of Christmassy wine flutes that were cheap and will look festive on our table on Sunday.
So we came home, Phill got out at Junee to pick up the work car and the kids and I drove on to Coota. It had drizzled a little bit on the 100km trip home but we were astonished to see the roads awash when we came into town. The low areas were flooded and the causeway was a river. Must have been a big storm but we missed it.
I waded up the yard to find the patio capsicums were bug bound but further up I found these little gems in the vegie garden. Long time since we've grown any decent tomatoes. They can do with a couple of days further ripening on the window sill.
I decided we'd have roast lamb for dinner so ducked down and got a nice piece. Roasted it with garlic and later potatoes and pumpkin and had that with broccoli and grilled asparagus with a little balsamic glaze and a good gravy thanks to the lovely baking dish we pinched from the house in Junee. Phill was drinking beer and he and Josh watched a movie in the family room. Then he switched to wine. He gets so stupid when he drinks wine, he made some really inappropriate comments to me so I decamped to the bedroom. Not long after that Josh left him to it and we could hear him listening to cheesy 70s music really loudly and singing to it! Really loudly. Josh's room is right off that room so he came and got in bed with me and we watched tv for a while before Phill stormed in ready to go to bed. He's grown his hair a bit and I told him it makes him look younger (it doesn't) and Josh and I had a plan to give him a bit of a haircut while he was asleep. Didn't happen sadly and I had such high hopes. He started snoring and I went and slept on the lounge which was really uncomfortable but oddly I didn't have any sweats or hot flushes. Thankfully Phill has gone to Newcastle for a few days but not before he threw my lovely Dusk candle and broke it. No probs, I just ordered another one and an extra one as well and put it on his credit card.
Got a Christmas card from a blogger friend yesterday and it made my week. We've been online bloggers for years but it was really nice to see her handwriting and in spite of everything that is going on in her life, that she would take the time to send me a card. This is what Christmas is all about. Thanks MC!!
So this morning I am tired and need a sleep but have put Sweet and Sour Pork in the slow cooker. I coated the cubed pork in flour and pepper and browned it in the crock then made a sauce, a bit different to last time, juice from the pineapple pieces, soy sauce, fresh ginger, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar and a bit of tomato sauce, bunged it in with some chopped up red and green capsicum and the pineapple pieces and dinner will be ready this evening with some jasmine rice.
My hair has gone psycho in this ridiculously humid weather.
I don't know what his problem is but he better get over it before he comes home or Santa will have him on the naughty list!
