Sick Monday

Pulled up crook, the three of us, this morning.  Both kids had stomach upsets and I feel like I have the flu.  My head is still stuffed up and I just feel rotten.  Em is better than Josh and actually made me a cup of tea this morning!  They had their stupid swimming assessment thing today which none of us think is right.  It's now mandatory that before they participate in a swimming carnival or do swimming for sport, they have to be "labelled" as to their swimming ability.  These are high school kids, teenagers mostly, not little kids.  Emily is a good swimmer, Josh not so much and it's like "here is one more thing to make fun of them for".  They just don't go to carnivals and do other things for sport and get their swimming in out of school hours.  This is all because a student tragically drowned on a school excursion elsewhere in NSW.  I say don't have water activities on school excursions at all, it's not necessary.  So at least we didn't have to deal with getting out of that one.
Phill just rang to say he's on his way home from Newcastle.  He'll be glad to get home to some decent meals.  He's been living on tinned food and marked down salads.  What he didn't know is that I have more money than I let on.  He eats way more than he needs and I know I'm mean, but it's his choice to be away from home all the time.  There are three of us plus all the animals and there's no way we're going to go short because he wants to work away from home all the time.  Yep I'm a bitch.  But I'm good at it.  He was whooping it up drinking with his friends after work up there earlier in the year when we had money, with no thoughts of me being here alone most of the time, trying to deal with crazy landladies and a troubled teenager.
I can't forget last year when he was working for the Mickey Mice company and they just wouldn't pay him, we were on monthly pay then, and I was home trying to homeschool, very depressed and fielding phone calls from people wanting their rent and bill money and I found out he put two or three hundred dollars through the poker machines in Melbourne.  Then it was us in danger of tinned food!
I need a shower, I had a bad night last night, freezing one minute, sweating the next and I feel grotty.

I hope you're feeling better soon.
I can't wait till my kids can make me something in the kitchen. Cups of tea made by others are always better than your own.
I agree with you about halloween, we had never celebrated it before now. I read somewhere its the time of year when this world and the spiritual world are the closest. That sort of intrigued me... hate the commercialism of it all, but I thought it had pagan traditions.
I hope your husband realises he really has the best of both worlds, family at home, but freedom on the road.

get well soon my friend..I don't think it's important that kids can swim 'excellent, or better than someone else.'..good enough to keep from drowning is all that's important.

good for Em for fixing you tea!
If I heard mine was throwing away money while I had bill collectors calling he'd never hear the end of it. He tried once to go out and buy himself something that cost as much as what I spend on clothing myself + the children combined. He's never heard the end of that!
Hope you feel better soon!
