As predicted the rain came down after dawning grey and gloomy. Nothing nicer than a rainy Saturday afternoon spent pottering indoors. I got the pork balls on early, they smell amazing. There was a little extra pork mince so I'm going to make Josh some Chinesey pork balls as he doesn't like the ones we have. Had a shower, dressed and went down to the supermarket. I got some green prawns for the fried rice for a treat. Came home and got the washing done and hung and tumble drying and am now in my pjs in front of the telly surrounded by cookbooks. Planning our anniversary dinner next month as well as looking at Christmas food ideas. I have a cup of decaf tea and some toast with ginger marmalade next to me. It doesn't get much better than this. The kids have been little angels today, playing happily in their rooms. Gotta grab the good days with both hands I say.
I want to make a dessert but not sure what yet. I have an Asian creme caramel type recipe that I've been wanting to try, might do that.
I was going to upload the photos from the Narrabri trip but that one above took soooo long I might leave it.
Phill has been slowly putting all our home videos onto dvds and I've been watching some of them on my laptop. Such happy memories of when Katy was still here and all the kids were small. This morning I saw Josh when he turned one, my gorgeous blonde haired baby with big blue eyes, such a happy little fellow. And next week he turns 13. I thought about going to Mum's for the weekend (his birthday is Sunday) but the resort we were going to stay at is pretty well booked out except for a really expensive three bedroom cabin which we don't need and really can't afford with bills to pay and Christmas just around the corner. I wouldn't stay at Mum's for Josh's birthday as the resort was part of his birthday treat. I think we might stay home and go out for dinner. He is getting Wii games for his birthday so he'll want to stay close to a modern tv anyway I daresay. He is crazy about chocolate and mint and wants his birthday cake flavoured that way. I have to make it up as I go, I am thinking a chocolate cake flavoured with peppermint oil, if I can get it, essence if I can't, topped with crushed up peppermint crisp chocolate bars on top of icing made with melted Aero bars. Too much? Hmm, might have to think about it a bit more.
Well I was right about uploading more photos, the net is always so slow on weekends here.
I'm going to go back to my cookbooks and my cooking shows. Easy yummy dinner for tonight then Hey Hey on the tv and an early night, listening to the rain on the roof as we drift off to sleep.
Lovely.
Later.....
Dinner was great again, Em said my pork balls (no to the smart alecs they're NOT pig testicles) get better every time I make them. The prawns in the fried rice were a mistake. Even the cats and dog wouldn't eat them. I've decided I just don't like prawns anymore. I did rice noodles in oyster sauce for me, they were good.
Cats are in bed, dog tucked up in the laundry and the bird has his cover on. Kids have been holed up in their rooms pretty much all day, I can't believe how well they get along and never seem to run out of things to talk about and games to play. I don't mind, I'm enjoying my last bit of solitude before Phill comes back on Monday. No trains down here so he will be home most of the week it seems. Give me strength.
The kids reported "clipper bugs" in their rooms last night. I don't know what they're really called, I'd never seen them before we moved to the country, they are little dark long bugs with pincer type things on them. Emily actually coined the term "clipper bug" when she was three or so, but she now says they're called "earwigs". I always thought earwigs were those segmented grey bugs. Anyway I sprayed their doorways and walls with surface spray this morning. Em said that the bugs were on her during the night and she jumped out of bed but saw a wolf spider coming for her and decided she was better off with the clipper bugs. Em has a very active imagination. I did have a bug on the sleeve of my dressing gown this morning though. There is a black house spider living in the handle of the side gate and every morning when I go to get in the car I have to walk through spider webs in the garage (which was once home to gazillions of redback spiders). We have huntsman spiders living on the wall in our hallway. We don't mind them, they are harmless and eat the flies and mossies. We actually get upset if one of them ends up dead on the carpet. I quickly wrapped up a corpse in toilet paper and flushed it the other night before the kids saw it. They are born animal lovers, no matter what the creature is and I've learned a lot from them.
Damn I just wrote a very politically incorrect paragraph about airlines and their practises but I deleted it. Such is the world today. *sigh*

Wow 13 already? Yikes just realised I will have a 13 year old in a couple of weeks too! Yesterday I gained an 18 year old. Family over last night and all her friends tonight! Noisy house up here! LOL
You have me curious as to what these clipper bugs are, I am going to have to go and look it up! LOL! I am such a homeschooly nerd!
I think we had a couple of babies in the same year didn't we?
If you find out what the clipper bugs are Karisma, let us know! I'll try to get a photo.
Sounds like a lovely day down under.
