I can't remember one birthday since Phill and I have been together that he hasn't behaved in a mean spirited way. It's almost like he hates me to have that special day just for me. He leaves it till the last minute to get me a present and then it's a rushed trip to the shops, seemingly blaming me all the time for not doing it for him. I got a book that I told him to get, two pairs of (broken) earrings, a ceramic pig with half an ear missing and two little boxes of chocolate (I don't eat chocolate, but he does it every year anyway). He bought one horrible card from the kids and signed it himself as well, didn't bother getting me a separate one from him. Now he knows how much I love birthday cards, I keep them all. The best thing I got was a gorgeous papier mache photo frame that the kids made me. THAT is what gift giving is all about, putting thought and time into something you know the recipient will like. It's not about how much is spent. I let him hurt me every year. Silly me. I didn't even get a cup of tea in bed, I had to get up and make my own, and one for him of course.
But I got to see my Titanic Exhibition which was the main reason I planned this trip down here. And I wasn't disappointed, it was incredible, emotional, fascinating and even held the kids' interest most of the way through. I have always been very interested in the Titanic's story since I was a child so for me it was a real treat.
We had planned to go to Captain Cook's Cottage, but wanting to dress up a bit for my birthday I wore high heels and had had enough walking. We had got there early and took the free City Circle tram right arouind Melbourne which was great.
So we just came home, with Phill driving like a maniac, on purpose I think. Then he propped in front of the tv. So that was my birthday. I did get a phone call from Ali which made my day, and an email from one sister and a text from the other so that made me really happy. No word from Kate of course.
I'll be glad to get home tomorrow and even gladder when he goes back to work. I'll miss the kids a bit when they go back to school on Monday.
I have lots of photos which I'll upload when I get home.
I'm going to go ring my Mum so she can wish me happy birthday.
We got photos taken at the Titanic exhibition which are really cool, I'll scan them at home.
So I turned 51 today and I think I am in pretty good nick. I wore my new red top and my new skinny jeans and I felt good. Disappointed but I'm used to that where my husband is concerned. I have new and radical plans for my next birthday!!!
I even had to buy my own birthday cake. :( I have a thing that everyone HAS to have a birthday cake every year and if I have to provide my own well so be it. I guess I did it last year, made my own cupcake tower for my party.
Yep 51 isn't so bad really.

Happy Birthday to you. You look great, a sort of cheeky and happy smile is on your face, like you know that you have really won the game or had the last laugh.
I totally agree with the cake thing, I've had birthdays with no cake and I am not ever doing that again. Cake should absolutely be there on your birthday, even if you have to cook it yourself.
